About me

My name is Kristijan Aufiero. I am a graduate in political science, a married father of two children, as well as the founder and managing director of the non-profit 1000plus-Profemina GmbH.

Since I came into closer contact with Profemina counseling for pregnant women in need in 2006, it has been my goal that as many women as possible can receive "HELP instead of abortion." I am deeply grateful to all the people who have made the counseling possible through their generosity, now reaching hundreds of thousands.

My family and my faith form the foundation of my life. Here, I experience love, and from here, I draw strength for all activities that I consider my duty.

Childhood

On November 14, 1969, I was born in Varazdin, in present-day Croatia. The son of an Italian father and a Croatian mother who had come to Germany in the late 1960s, I spent my childhood in Croatia, Italy, and Germany.

I am very grateful for my "varied-European" roots. I was significantly influenced by the kindergarten, school, and study years I spent in a Munich suburb and in Munich itself. Even today, I consider myself a Bavarian, and German is the language in which I predominantly think, speak, and compose texts.

Baptism

On xx April 199x, I was received into the Catholic Church through baptism. This step was preceded by a longer period in which I consciously engaged with fundamental philosophical and theological questions. At the end of this journey, there was an insight for me that persists to this day, expressed by Pope Benedict XVI in his spiritual testament as follows:

„Jesus Christ is truly the way, the truth, and the life—and the Church, with all its shortcomings, is truly His body.“

Family

On September 9, 1996, my wife Monika and I exchanged our vows. As a husband and father of two children, I have had the privilege of experiencing the special joys, challenges, and moments of happiness that family life brings.

Education

I completed my studies in political science in Munich and Siena. Subsequently, I worked for various non-profit organizations in the areas of strategy and fundraising. Eventually, I also ventured into independent work in this field.

In the role of a fundraising consultant, I joined the association Die BIRKE e.V. in Heidelberg on x.x. 2006. From the ranks of members of this association and the Pro Femina e.V. association, founded in 1999, the idea was developed to provide pregnancy counseling 'for the internet age' to as many women as possible – with the highest quality of counseling, entirely funded by donations, and free from state influence.

1000plus

On October 1, 2009, as a result, the starting signal was finally given for the project 1000plus, which has since counseled hundreds of thousands of women under the motto 'HELP instead of abortion.'

It was a great honor when Pope Francis granted 1000plus a private audience on xx June 2016 and praised and blessed it for its 'wonderful work.

Rising Numbers

After additional years of sharply increasing counseling numbers and the expansion of counseling services to additional languages, on xx January 2022, the social enterprise Profemina International GmbH was officially registered in the commercial register of the Chamber of Commerce for Trade, Industry, Crafts, and Agriculture of Bolzano, South Tyrol (Italy).

Why did I establish 1000plus-Profemina?

While working for the association Die BIRKE e.V. in the areas of public relations and fundraising, I witnessed an impressive counseling case on the sidelines involving a young woman who unexpectedly became pregnant at the age of 17 and, despite challenging circumstances, decided to keep her child. After several months, the now proud mother of a little boy joyfully visited the counseling center again to express her gratitude with a heartfelt "Thank you.

"Why it's my 'Heart Project'

The personal encounter with this young woman and her story has shown me: when you empower pregnant women in distress, when you give them courage to face their task and grow with it, a person blossoms, and their life simply changes positively on all levels. It was clear to me that this must be our response: to enable women in pregnancy conflict to say 'yes' to life, with everything at our disposal, and empower them to pass on this 'yes' to life to the child they carry beneath their hearts.

Exactly against this background and from this thought, 1000plus-Profemina emerged. I described the aforementioned encounter with the young woman in Heidelberg more extensively during a lecture in Essen a few years ago. You can listen to the corresponding recording here:"
